chapter 29 --- class 7 ---

1. न एनं छिन्दन्ति शस्त्राणि न एनं दहति पावक:

not this cut Shastras not this burns fire

2. स नरो धेनू: धूर्भि: युनक्ति

the man cow with-yoke-to-cart joins

3. देवदत्त: कांस्यपात्र्यां पाणिना ओदनं भुङ्के

Devadatta on bronze plate with hand rice eats

4. अरयो धनुर्भि: द्वारम् अरुन्धन्

enemies with bows door-gate obstructed

5. बली वीर: शत्रो: शीर्षम् अभिनत्

powerful hero of enemy head split

6. मा इमां बालां वने हिंस्यु: सिंहा:

not these boys in forest should kill lions

7. तुभ्यं कथा: कथयित्वा तव दु:खं छिन्द्याम् अहम् इति

to you stories having told

your suffering I should cut

पण्डितो नृपाय अब्रवीत्

pandit to king said

8. तस्मात् त्वम् उत्तिष्ठ यशो लभस्व जित्वा श्त्रून् भुङ्क्ष्व राज्यम्

from that you rise fame obtain

having conquered enemies enjoy kingdom

9. पिनष्मि धान्यम् अहं शिलया

grind grain I with stone

10. नदीं शिला: रुन्ध्यु:

river rocks should obstruct

11. यदा चन्द्र: भाति तदा रात्रि: तमसा रिच्यते

when moon shined then night with darkness was empty

12. शाखा: छिन्द्धि गा दुग्धि धान्यं पिण्ड्ढी इति शिष्यो गुरुणा उक्त:

branches you-must-cut, cow milk, grain grind

student with guru said

13. हिमवत: पर्वतस्य शिखराणि वायुं रुन्धन्ति

of himalaya mountains, summits wind obstructs

14. पुण्यवन्त: स्वर्गे अमृतं भुञ्जते,

possessing-religious-merit in heaven immortality enjoy

पापवन्त: तु नरके अग्नौ पतन्ति

but sin-possessers in hell burn fall

15. पीनो देवदत्तो दिवा न भुङ्के /

fat God-given by-day not enjoy

तर्हि स कथं पीन: /

then he how fat

स रातौ भुङ्के इति अहं मन्ये

he in night enjoy I think
