Kalidasa 8

* भारतदेशे पुरा कालिदास: नाम महाकवि: बभूव /

in-India previously Kalidasa named great-poet was

* तस्य इयं कथा श्रूयते /

of-that this story was-heard

* तरुण: कालिदास उज्जयिनीनगरे अवसत् /

young Kalidasa Ujayini-city dwelled

* तस्य बुद्धि: नासीत् एव /

of-his-smarts not-was

* किन्तु स सुरुप: अभवत् /

but he handsome was

* एकदा राजा राजकन्याया विवाह: कार्य इति अघोषयत् /

once king of-princess's wedding act announced

* य: नर: सर्वेषु जनेषु पण्डिततम: भवेत् तस्मै राजकन्या प्रदीयेत /

the man-who amoung-men best-pandit

should-be to-him princess should-be-given

* केचित् दुर्जना राजकन्यां प्रति गत्वा ताम् एवम् अकथयन् -

some bad-people towards princess having-gone, her told

हे राजकन्ये , नगरे अस्मिन् कालिदास: नाम महापण्डित: निवसति /

hey princess, in-city this Kalidasa named great-pandit dwells

* स एव तव पति: भवतु /

he your husband will-be

* तेन सह तव जीवितं सुखमयं भवेत् इति /

with-that your life happy should-be

* तद् वचनं श्रुत्वा सा राजकन्या कालिदासम् एव अचिन्तयत् /

that speech having-heard,

the princess Kalidasa contemplated

* नान्यं पुरूषम् /

not another man

* अन्ते च तस्या: कालिदासेन सह विवाह: जात: /

and in-end her with-Kalidasa wedding was-born

* अपि तु कालिदास: महान् अपण्डित इति

but also Kalidasa great-fool

सा विवाहात् अनन्तरम् अबोधत् /

she from-wedding another knew

* सा कालिदासम् अवदत् - रे मूर्ख, मा मां स्पृश /

she to-kalidasa said - hey fool, no me you-touch

* न अहम् इच्छामि त्वाम् अपण्डितं द्रष्टुम् /

no i want, you fool to-see

* यत्र क्वापि गच्छ इति /

where where-ever go

* तत: कालिदास: तत् नगरं त्यक्त्वा वनं गत: /

thence Kalidasa that city having-abandoned forest went

* वने च स कालीदेव्या मन्दिरम् अपश्यत् /

and in-forest he Kali-goddess's temple saw

* तत्र स देव्या भक्तिं चकार /

there he of-Devi devotion did

* बहुना कालेन प्रसन्ना देवी तस्मै बुद्धिं प्रायच्छत् /

with-much-time, pleased Goddess, to-him smarts extended

* एवं देव्या: प्रसादेन स महाकवि: बभूव /

thus Goddess's grace, he great-poet became

* तस्मात् तं जना: कालिदास इति वदन्ति /

from-that him people Kalidasa they-say
