Deer Crow Jackel 6

* भारतदेशे दण्डकं नाम वनं अवर्तत /

in-India Dandaka forest existed

* बहव: पशव: खगा: च तत् चारुवनम् अध्यतिष्ठन् /

many animals and birds that beautiful-forest occupied

* तस्मिन् वने बह्व्य: नद्य: बहव: च ह्रदा अविद्यन्त /

in-that forest many rivers and many lakes were

* तत्र सुमति: नाम काक: च त्राङ्ग: नाम मृग: च सुखेन अवसताम् /

there Sumati named crow and Tranga named deer

with-happiness dwelled

* काक: मृगस्य मित्रं मृग: च काकस्य /

crow deer's friend and deer crow's

* यथा काकस्य द:खेन मृग: दु:खम् अन्वभवत् ,

as of-crow with-pain, deer pain felt

तथा एव मृगस्य दु:खेन काक: अपि दु:खम् अन्वभवत् /

so of-deer with-pain, crow also pain felt

* एकस्य सुखेन अन्यस्य सुखम् अजायत् /

of-one with-happines, of-other happiness occured

* एकदा स मृग: तृणं खादितुं वने पर्यभ्राम्यत् /

once the deer grass to-eat in-forest wandered-around

* कश्चित् शृगाल: तं पीनं मृगम् अपश्यत् /

some jackel the fat deer saw

* तम् ईक्षित्वा स शृगाल: अचिन्तयत् -

him having-seen, the jackel contemplated

कथम् एतस्य पीनस्य मृगस्य स्वादु मांसं भक्षयेयम् इति /

how of-this-fat-deer sweet meat i-might-eat

* एतया क्षुद्रया मत्या स शृगाल: तं मृगम् उपगम्य व्याहरत् -

with-this-mean thought, the jackel

the deer having-approached spoke

हे मित्र, नमस्ते /

hey friend hi

* अपि ते सुखं वर्धत एतस्मिंश्चारुणि वन इति /

also they happiness prospered in-this-beautiful forest

* तं शृगालं सर्वत: निरीक्ष्य स मृग: अवदत् -

to-the jackel on-all-sides having-observed the deer said

क: त्वम् ? सर्वाणि मम मित्राणि बोधामि अहम् /

who you ? all my friends i-know

* त्वां तु अहं न कदापि एतस्मिन् वने अपश्यम् /

you but i never in-this forest saw

* कुत: त्वम् आगच्छसि /

from-where you come

* कुत: त्वं मां मित्रं मन्यसि इति /

from-where you me friend think

* शृगाल: अभाषत् -

jackel said

क्षुद्रमति: नाम शृगाल अहम् /

Ksudramati named jackel i

* मम सर्वा भार्या: पुत्रा: च अनले मृता: /

all my wives and sons in-fire died

* मित्राणि च मे न क्वापि भवन्ति /

and my friends no-where are

* तत: अहम् एक एव मृत इव जीवामि /

thence i ( ) dead like live

* यस्य नरस्य मित्राणि न भवन्ति तस्य जीवने सर्वम् एव दु:खम् /

of-which-forest friends not are, of-that in-life all pain

* तस्य जीवनं मरणम् एव /

his life death

* अधुना त्वां दृष्ट्वा प्रसन्न: अहं त्वां मित्रं मन्ये /

now you having-seen, pleased i you friend think

* त्वया मित्रेण सह अहं सुखेन जीवेयम् इति /

with-you-friend i with-happiness might-live

* मृग: अवदत् - य: त्वम् एवं भाषसे, स त्वं साधु: एव /

deer said - who you thus you-say, he you good

* अहम् अपि त्वां मित्रं लब्ध्वा प्रसन्न: /

i you friend having-obtained pleased

* आगच्छ /

come

* एतस्मिन् वने आवां सुखेन वसेव इति /

in-this-forest we2 with-happiness might-live

* मृगस्य मित्रं काक: तस्मै अवदत् -

deers friend crow to-him said

एष शृगाल: यद्यपि स्वादूनि वचनानि भाशते,

this jackel even-if sweet words says

तथापि तस्य सर्वाणि वचनानि सर्वदा परीक्षस्व /

even-so his sweet words allways you-examine

* सर्व शृगाला: सर्वदा क्षुद्रा एव भवन्ति /

all jackels allways mean are

* एतस्य नाम अपि क्षुद्रम् अति: इति /

of-this salute even mean very

* एकदा शृगाल: मृगम् अवदत् -

once jackel deer

एतस्मिन् एव वने किञ्चत् क्षेत्रम् अहम् इक्षे /

in-this-forest some field i see

* तद् धान्येन पूर्णं भवति /

that with-grain filled becomes

* तत्र अहं त्वां नेतुम् इच्छामि /

there i you to-lead want

* तद् धान्यं खादित्वा यदि त्वं पीन: भवे:

that grain having-eaten, if you fat become,

तर्हि त्वां पीनं दृष्ट्वा सुखेन एव अहं पीन: भवेयम् इति /

then you fat having-seen, with-happiness i fat should-become

* मित्रस्य वचनेन प्रसन्न: मृग: धान्यं खादितुं तत् क्षेत्रम् अगच्छत् /

with-friend's words pleased

deer grain to-eat that field went

* तत्र एव स जाले अपतत् /

there he in-trap fell

* मृगं जाले पतितं दृष्ट्वा प्रसन्न: स शृगाल: सुखेन अनृत्यत् /

deer in-trap had-fallen having-seen

pleased the jackel with-happiness danced

* स: अचिन्तयत् - यदि एतस्य क्षेत्रस्य पति: मृगं हत्वा भूमौ क्षिपेत् ,

he contemplated - if of-this-field's-lord

deer having-killed on-ground should-throw

तदा अहं सुखेन तत् स्वादु मांसं खादेयम् इति /

then i with-happiness that sweet meat eat

* जाले पतित: मृग: तत्र एव मृत इव अतिष्ठत् /

in-trap fallen deer, there dead-like remained

* तं मृतं मत्वा क्षेत्रस्य पति: तं जालात् अमुञ्चत् /

him dead having-thought, field's lord, him from-trap freed

* जालात् मुक्त: स मृग: वेगेन वनं प्रत्यधावत् /

from-trap freed the deer with-speed forest towards-ran

* तं मृगं हन्तुं क्षेत्रस्य पति: दण्डं प्राक्षिपत् /

the deer to-kill field's lord stick threw-forcefully

* तेन दण्डेन स क्षुद्र: शृगाल: एव अम्रियत /

by-that-stick the mean jackel was-killed
