 Girl    kanyā            katham   tvam   asi  ?

 T   pathikaḥ:      kuśalī asmi,  dhanyavādaḥ.       nisīdaḥ, kṛpayā

 G               odanam  masureṇa  ca  akhādīt    iti   paśyāmi .

                                  i see that  rice and lentils  was  eaten

 

 T        ām, tad uttamam āsīt kintu atīva tīkṣṇam. (…śubham abhūt…)

           Bhavatyāḥ bhojanam samāptam ? (api tvayā jagdham?)

                        are you finished with your meal ?

 

 G      ām,  adhunā  granthālayasya  patham   diśai  .

           tatra   kim   iccheḥ

                      what do you want there ?

 

T         mayā bahūni sanskrita-pustakāni draṣṭavyāni.

            (anekān samskṛta-granthān darśam)

                    i want to explore the many Sanskrit books.

            tāni bhavatyā dṛṣṭāni ? (tadgranthān adarśaḥ?)

                     Have you seen these books ?

 

G         teṣām  katipayāni eva   aikṣam  .

                 i  have  only  seen  a few

           kintu    bahūni  santi  tatra.

                 But there are so many

           kīdṛśāni   ekāṇi     icchasi ?

                  Which ones do you seek ?

 

T         na veda. Sambhāvyam Vajra-sūtram iti.

                  i do not know. Maybe the Diamond Sutra

 

G       etat  ekam  aham  na   aikṣam  . 

               that  one   I  have not  seen  .   

         kimartham etad eva iṣyate  mayā  ?

                 Why do you seek out that book ?

 

T        paṭhitena mama camatkāraḥ āsīt:

                   i was tickled by a quote

          ‘sarveṣām bhūtānām uttamam tattvam śūnyam iti’;

                  ‘the essential original nature of things is empty ‘

 

G       hum  !     avām  bahis  gaccheḥ  ?

                  hum ,    may  we go outside ?
