lesson 18                pratyāgamanam

                                               Return,

 

 Traveler           atra pańca dināni atiṣṭham,

                                i have been here five days.

                         idānīm yātrām pratiṣṭhāmi. Dhanyavādaḥ.

                                Now I will continue on my journey. Thank you.

 

WiseMan:          mama maunakālaḥ samāptaḥ asmin māse.

                                 My time of silence is over for this month.

                          śubham astu iti prārthaye.

                                  i wish you good luck.

 

M:          bhavān vadati! Vadanena vinā api,

                     You talk ! Even without speaking,

             asmin sthāne adhītavān bhavataḥ.

                      i have learned from you here in this place.

 

WM:        bhavān āgantum atra yathākāmam śaknoti.

                      You may return as you like.

 

M:          bahu śītalam atra, bhojanam api aparyāptam,

                     It is cold here, only a little food is available,

              parantu bahu sukhakaram asmin sundare  sthāne.

                     yet it is comfortable in this beautiful place.

 

WM:        yadi bhavān sukakaraḥ ātmanā saha

                       You become comfortable within yourself,

                tadā sukhakaraḥ sarvasmin sthāne.

                       then you are comfortable in every place.

 

M:        adhunā mama yātrām pravarte.

                     Now I will continue on my journey.

 

WM:       etena mārgena nīce gacchatu upavanam prati.

                     Follow the path down this mountain to the grove of trees.

               tataḥ prāci caratu.

                     Then travel east.

 

T:          kim tatra bhavati ?

                     What is there ?

 

WM:        dinadvayena mandiram drakṣyati,

                        In two days travel, you will see a temple.

                tasya darśanam roceta sambhāvyam.

                        You may like to visit.

 

T:           kṛpayā etāni śuṣkaphalāni svīkarotu.

                       Please take these dried fruits.

 

WM:       śāntiḥ.
