· pūrvasmin kāle kenacid dvijena yavai: pūrṇas śarāvas prāpta: /

in-former-time by-some-twice-boen with-barley full plate obtained

· yatas sas daridras abhavat tatas imam yavapūrṇam śarāvam

whence the poor was thence this-barly-full plate

prāpya tasya hṛdaye prabhūta: samtoṣa: jāta: /

having-obtained in-his-heart much joy was-born

· anantaram svagrāmam tyaktvā cirakālīnasya mitrasya

afterwards own-village having-abandoned of-longtime-friend

kumbhakārasya maṇḍapikām gatvā

potmaker’s shed having-gone

tatra rātryām śayyāyām śayitvā evam acintayat /

there night bed having-lain thus contemplaed

· yadi aham imam yavapūrṇam śarāvam vikrīya katipayān

if i this barley-full plate having-bought a-few

kapardakān prāpnomi tadā tais kapardakais anyān ghaṭān

coins i-obtain then by-those-coins other pots

krītvā vikrīya anekadhā vṛddhena dhanena prabhūtāni

having-bought having-sold not-one with-grow-money numerous

anyāni dravyāni upakrīya anena prakāreṇa dhanasya

other things having-bought by-this-way of-money

samcayam utpādya catasnas patnīs pariṇayāmi /

accumulation having-produced 4 wives i-marry

· tatas tāsu patnīṣu adhikarūpavatyām adhikam anurāgam karomi /

thence amoung-those-wives the-one-very-beautiful extra affection i-do

· yadā yadā tās anyās nārya: īṣryayā dvandvam kurvanti

whenever those-other-women with-jealousy quarrel they-do

tadā tadā aham kopena ākula:

then i with-anger agitated

ittham anena laguḍena tās tāḍayāmi /

thus with-this-club them i-beat

· iti uktvā śayyāyās utthāya tena dvijena laguḍas kṣiptas /

thus having-spoken from-bed having-gotten-up

by-that-twice-born club was-thrown

· atas tena laguḍena tasya yavapūrṇas śarāvas cūrṇita:

hence with-that-club his barley-full plate was-smashed

bhāṇḍāni ca prabhūtāni bhagnāni /

and dishes-pots numerous were-broken

· eṣām bhāṇḍānām bhaṅgasya śabdena kumbhakāreṇa āgamya

these dishes of-breaking with-sound-potmaker having-come

tad dṛṣṭvā sas dvijas tiraskṛtas maṇḍapikāyā: ca bahiṣkṛta: //

that having-seen the twice-born was-scolded

and of-shed was-put-outside
