7.87                Varuna

 

1.      radat   pathas   varuṇas   sūriyāya

               Varuna   dug       paths     for-the-sun

           rad   c1/2  inj.  sing.3  act.  

  pra   arṇāmsi   samidri   nadīnām

         forth    the floods  of-rivers    to the sea

   sargas   na   sṛṣṭas   arvatīs    ṛtāyan

         galloping   mares   like    discharged-surged-flowed    truth-going-following

                                                  ṛta  yan   i   pap

 cakāra   mahīs   avanīs   ahabhyas

          he-made   geat  streambeds(rivers)   for-the-days

         kṛ   c5   perf.   sing.3

 

2.     ātmā   te   vātas   rajas   ā   navīnot

               your  breath ,  the wind  ,   airy space       repeatedly-roared 

           ātmin                                              acc. sing. n                      nu    int.  imperf.  sing.3  act  

  paśur   na   bhūrṇis   yavase   sasavān

            like an impetuous beast    on-pasture land   victorious            

 antar   mahī   bṛhatī   rodasī  ime

            between      these  2 great and lofty worlds

    viśvā   te   dhāma   varuṇa   priyāṇi

            (here are) all your    dear  abodes-domains

                                 n

 

3.     pari   spaśas   varuṇasya   smadiṣṭās

           the spies of-Varuna          with-united-desire  similar-intentions

                                                                                          smat  together           iṣ   ppp  nom.  pl.

   ubhe   paśyanti   rodasī   surneke

            survey  both    well-supported  worlds

    ṛtāvānas   kavayas   yajñadhīrās

           truth-possessing    the  poets       insightful in sacrifices

        

   pracetasas   yas   iṣayanta   manma

       conscious-ones       who sent      thoughts

                               iṣ  caus.   imperf.  pl.3  mid.

 

4.     uvāca   me   varuṇas   medhirāya

          Varuna  has-said      for-my-understanding

          vac   c2/3   perf.  sing.3

    tris   sapta   nāma   aghniyā   bibharti

          3  times 7  names          the invoilable-cow bears

                                           nom.  sing.  f           bhṛ    c3

 vidvān   padasya   guhiyā   na   vocat

           knowing  of its track,     (its names like secrets)     he-will-speak     

                                        acc.  pl.                              vac   c2   ao.   subj.

  yuyāya   vipra   uparāya   śikṣan

               he the inspired poet who strives o behalf of the later generation

 

 

5.     tisras   dyāvas   nihitā   antar   asmin

          3  heavens  are hidden within him

   tisras   bhūmīr   uparā:    aḍvidhānā:

          and below are 3  earths  arranged  in  sixes

   gtisas   rā   varuṇas   cakra   etam

           the  clever  king varuna created  this

   divi   preǹkham   hiraṇyayam   śubhe   kam

         the  golden  swing in heaven(the sun)  for  the  sake of beauty

 

6.     ava   sindhum   varuṇas   dyaur   iva   sthāt

          like heaven   varuna  has descended to the river

   drapsas   na   śvetas   mṛgas   tuviṣmān

          he,  the powerful wild animal,  like a bright drop

   gambhīraśamsas   rajasas   vimāna:

          he of deep   recitation,  who takes the measure of the airy space

   supārakṣatra:   satas   asya   rā

              he  the  king of what is , whose lordship offers  good  passage

 

7.      yas   mṛṛlayāti   cakruṣe   cit   āgas

          might  we be without  offense  within varuna

        vayam   siyāma   varuṇe   anāgā:

              who will have mercy even on him who has committed an offense

        anu   varatāni   aditer   ṛdhantas

              as  we obedientl  fulfill the commandmants of Aditi

       yūyam   pāta   suastibhis   sa   nas

              you-all  protect   us  always  with-good-beings
