1.          tvā   hi   agne   sadam   it   samanyavas

                 you           O Agni      always     the-breath-life-seeking

                                                        ind.  sadā                              sam  an   breath      

 devāsas   devam   arati   nierire

    gods          devine  worker-wheel     have-sent-inwards

                                                                                 ni    īr   c2   perf.   raise-one’s-voice

 iti   kratvā    nierire

    thus    by-the-will     they-have-sent-you-in

 amartyaṃ    yajata    martyeṣu   ā

     immortal       you-all-shall-sacrifice            in-mortals

   devām   ādevaṃ   janata   pracetasaṃ

    gods    god-directed  you-all-shall-bring-to-birth    conscious-perception

                                        ( the one who brings the divinity )    jan    inj.   mid.

   viśvam   ādevaṃ   janata   pracetasam

     all(new fires)     god-directed    bring-to-birth      conscious-perception

2.              sa    bhrātaraṃ   varuṇam   agne    ā   vavṛtsva

                  to-brother     varunam                         you-have-turned

            devām   achā   sumatī   yajñavanasam

                     devine     towards      good-thought   delights-in-sacrifice

                     king   who  upholds   seeing-men

 

  3.        sakhe   sakhāyam    abhi  ā   vavṛtsuva

                     o-friend   friend            turn  towards 

             āśum   na   cakram    rathiyeve    ramhiyā

                motion     as   two  rapid  chariot-horses ( turn )   a swift  wheel

             asmabhyam    dasma    ramhiyā

                  to-us    o-strong-worker (turn him)   like  galloping horses

            agne   mṛlīkam    varuṇe    sa    vidas

                     o-fire     bliss    in-Varuṇa     near-together    you-shall-find

            marutsu    viśvabhānuṣu

                    in-maruts      in-universal-lights

               tokāya   tuje   śuśucāna    śam   kṛdhi 

                    for-son   to-beget      has-been-glowing       make  pleasantness 

                                       tuj   c7   urge          śuc   c1   shine

              asmabhyam   dasma   śam  kṛdhi

                   for-us       o-strong worker     make pleasantness

 

 

4.                tuvam  nas  agne   varuṇasya  vidvān

                 you       our           of-Varuna      knower

           devasya    helas    ava    yāsisīṣṭhās

                of-devine    wrath    away    have-driven

           yajiṣṭhas    vahnitamas     śośucānas

                strongest-sacrifice    carryingest     repeatedly-glowing

           viśvā    dveṣāmsi    pra    mumugdhi    asmat 

                  all  hostile-powers         you-should-have-liberated     from-us

5.              sa   tvam   nas   agne   avamas   bhava  ūtī

                 you    our                                    be   protector

           nediṣṭhas   asyā    uṣasas    viuśṭau

                    most-near    of-this-dawn     dawning

          ava   yakṣva   nas   varuṇam    rarāṇas

                 sacrifice-away    us                 rejoicing

          vīhi   mṛlīkam    suhavas   nas   edhi

                   reach   bliss     to-our  good-call     come

 

6.              asya    śreṣṭhā    subhagasya    samdś

       of-this    most-glorious    of-fortune     vision-observe

           devasya    citratamā    martiyeṣu

                of-devine    most-bright    among-mortals

           śuci    ghṛtam    na    taptam    aghnyāyās

              bright    ghee   like    warm     can’t-be-slain

           spārhā    devasya    mamhaneva    dhenos

                 desirable     of-devine    gift     cow

 

7.               trir    asya   tā    paramā    santi   satyā

         3      of-his      they     supreme    are   truths

           spārhā    devasya    janimāni    agnes

                  desirable     of-devine    births    of-fire

           anante    antas    parivīta    āgāt

                   infinate  within    spread-wide-everywhere   has-come

           śucis    śukras    ariyas    rorucānas

                   brilliant   pure   noble      repeatedly-shining

 

8.             sa   dūtas   viśved   abhi    vaṣṭi    sadmā

                  he   messenger          yearning-towards  all planes

           ho    hiraṇyarathas    ramsujihvas

                  priest-of-call    golden-chariot    ecstatic-tongue

          rohidasvas    vapuṣiyas    vibhā

                  red-horses     beautiful-body     

          sa    raṇvas    pitumati iva    samsat

              ever     rapturous     like 

 

 

    9.    sa   cetayan    manuṣas    yajñabandhus

                 he    makes-conscious   men     sacrifice-builder

           pra   tam   mahyā    raśana    nayanti

                 forth   him   with-mighty-cord    they-lead

          sa   kṣeti    asya    duriyāsu    sādhan

                 he  resides      his     in-homes    accomplishing-aims

         devas    martasya    sadhanitvam    āpa

               god     of-mortals     has  come to be means of accomplishment

 

10.    sa   tū   nas   agnir   nayatu    prajānan

                this       us     agni      let-lead   

            achā    ratnam    devabhaktam   yad    asya

                  towards   jewel     god-enjoyment           of-this

            dhiyā    yad    viṣve    am    akṛṇvan

                  by-thought   (this bliss)    all  immortals    created

           diyau   pitā    janitā    satyam    ukṣan

                  heaven  father   begetter    truth   outpouring

 

11.    sa   jāyata    prathamas    pastiyāsu

                  he   was-born   first        in-rivers

            mahas    budhne    rajasas    asya    yonau

                of-vast         his     in-home      

            apād    aśīrṣā    guhamānas    antā

                  without-feet   without-head   concealing       2-ends

            āyoyuvānas    vṛṣabhasya    le

               joining                        of-bull    in-lair

 

12.           pra    śardha    ārta    prathamam    vipanyām

                he went forward  by  the  illumined  knowledge

            ṛtasya    yo    vṛṣabhasya    le

                 as  first  and  supreme  force

           spārho    yu    vapuṣiyo    vibhā

                in the native  seat  of  truth , in lair of bull

           sapta    priyāsas    ajanayanta    vṣṇe

                 7     dear-ones    brought-to-birth       for-bull

 

13.          asmākam    atra   pitaras   manuṣyā

                    our    here   fathers    human

            abhi   pra   sedur   ṛtam   āśuṣāṇās

                    towards-forth  the  truth  desiring  to  possess  it

            aśmavrajā:   sudughā    vavre    antar

                     they  drove  upwards  (to truth)  the  luminous  ones

            ud    usrā   ājan   uṣasas    havānās

                                          dawns     calling

 

14.          te   marmṛjata    dadṛvāmso    adrim

                 they   rent  the  hill ,  they  made  themselves  bright  and  pure

           tad    eṣām    anye    abhito    vi   vocan

               others  around  them  proclaimed  that  work  of  theirs

          paśvayantrāso    abhi    kāram   arcan

          drivers  of  herd , they  sang  the  chant  of  illumination  to-doer of work

         vidanta   jyotiś    cakṛpanta    dhībhis

             they  found  the  light ,  they  accomplished  the  work  by  their  thoughts

 

15.          te   gavyatā    manasā   dṛdhram   ubdham

               by a mind  seeking rays , (they rent) the firm and massed  hill

           gā    yemānam    pari   antam    adrim

              widh  encircled  the shining herds and repressed them

          dṛlham    naro    vacasā   daiviyena

              string place   pen  full  of  ray-cows

          vrajam    gomantam    ijo   vi   vavrus

                 aspiring (for knowledge) burst  open

 

16.          te   manvata   prathamam   nāma   dhenos

                  they meditated on supreme name of milch-cow

            tris   sapta   mātus   paramāṇi   vindan

                 they discovered  3  7  supreme planes  of  the  mother

            tat   jānatīr   abhi   anūṣata   vrā

                  knowing that the herds  lowed  towards  it

            āvir   bhuvad   aruṇīr    yaśa   gos

                 reddy dawn  became manifest by the glory of  cow of light

 

17.           neśat   tamo   dudhitam   rocata   dyaur

                   darkness  was  wounded  and  vanished

             ud   deviyā   uṣaso   bhānur   arta

                    heaven  shone  out , up  arose  the  light  of  divine dawn

             ā   sūriyas    bṛhatas    tiṣṭhat   ajrām

                    sun        of-the-Vast      stood        field-plain 

                                                                                       sthā    inj.

             ṛju   marteṣu   vṛjinā   ca   paśyan

                    in-mortals    on  the  straight  and  crooked    looking

                       ind.   right manner   correctly            vṛjinā    deceitful   false

 

  18.     ād   it   paścā   bubudhānā     vi    akhyan 

                  then,  when   after    they-had-woken-up   they-looked  around-in

                                                     abl.                                  perf.  part.                                Ao.                                                                                                                                                                        

           ād   id    ratnam    dhārayanta     dyubhaktam

             then,    the-jewel   they-held-on-to   that  heaven  had-bestowed

                                                                         dhṛ    caus.   inj.                                   bhaj      ppp     c1   divide

           viśve   viśvāsu    duryāsu    devā

                              in-all-homes            all    gods

    mitra    dhiye    varuṇa   satyam   astu

                  for-the-thought                   truth     let-there-be  

 

 19.     achā   voceya   śuśucānam  agnim

                  may my speech  be  towards  the  upblazing fire

           hotāram    viśvabharasam   yajiṣṭham

                  priest of call  , bringer of all things, strong to sacrifice

            śuci   ūdhas   atṛṇan   na   gavām

                  it is  as if one drank from pure udder   of-cows

            andhas   na   pūtam   pariṣiktam   amśos

                  food  purified  , poured on all sides      soma

 

  20.     viśveṣām   aditis   yajñiyānām

           (agni is)  power of indivisibility   masters-of-yajña

     viśveṣām   atithis   mānuṣāṇām

            (agni is)  guest   of all human beings

     agnis   devānām   ava   āvṛṇānas

              may agni draw to us the protection of gods

     sumṛlīkas   bhavatu   jātavedās

               may he be blissful to us   birth-knowers
