alpām parṇśālām gatvā tam tāpasam avadat /

leaf-hut having-gone to-the ascetic said

paramam mahādevam dṛśṭvā svargasya ānandam anvabhavam /
foremost great-devine having-seen
heaven’s joy i-experienced

atas kim adhikena dhyānena iti /

with-additional-meditation

kṣaṇam eva cintayitvā tāpasas tam pratyavadat /
an-instant having-contemplated ascetic

vastutas paramam lokasya īśvaram na dṛṣṭvā

svargasya ānandam na anubhūya tvam dhyānasya

madhye suptvā tāni dravyāṇi nidrāyām eva apaśyas /

prabhūtān eva varṣān dhyānam

tasya tāpasasya vacanam śrutvā param viṣādam gatvā

tam grāmam pratyāgacchat yatra kulam avasat /
to-the village returned where

sa: janakam avadat /

aviratam prayatnam vinā svargas duṣprāpas iti /
continuous effort
without heaven difficult-to-reach

janakas tam pratyavadat avaśyam eva putra /
