1. जलभोजने इच्छाम:

2. शीघ्रम् अश्चं पश्यत:

swift horse they2-see

3. पण्डिता: किम् इच्छथ

O pundits, what youall-want

4. त्वां बालम् इव क्रोध: जयति

you (as if a boy) anger conquers

5. कौ आचार्यौ पश्यसि

which 2teachers you-see ?

6. सूर्य इव अद्य चन्द्र: शोभन:

sun like-as-if today moon bright

7. अपि रमणीय: स:

pleasant (is) he ?

8. आचार्य क: ब्राह्मण इत: आगच्छति

O teacher, who-what brahman this-way comes

9. अत्र किं फलम्

(what is the advantage in this) ?

10. बाला: क्व स: आचार्य:

children where that teacher

11. किं रमणियानि अपि वचनानि न स्मरथ

(do you-all) pleasant words not even remember

12. स्वल्पं फलं पश्याम:

scant advantage we-see

13. अपि विस्मिता: आचार्या:

astonished (are the) teachers

14. क्षेत्रपर्वतवनानि बालौ पश्यत:

fields, mountains and forests 2boys see

15. सुखं स: न इच्छति इति किं वदथ

happiness he no want, what you-all-say (to that) ?

16. क्षेत्रं गजं नयन्ति

to-field elephant they-are-taking

17. क्व पुन: भोजनम् इति मां न वदसि

but where food, to-me you-no-say

18. विस्मितं जनं ब्राह्मण इव स नर: वदति

to-astonished-people like a brahman - that man speaks
