hiraṅyaka says

capalas tvam capalena saha sneha: sarvathā na kartavyas /

fickle you with-fickle with-affection by-any-means not to-be-made

· laghupatanakas brūte / śrutam mayā sarvam /

Laghupatanaka says heard by-me all

· tathā-api mama ca etāvān eva saṅkalpas

thus even to-me and such resolution

ca tvayā saha saukṛdyam avaśayam karaṇīyam iti /

and with-you friendship necessarily to-be-made

· na cet anāhāreṇa ātmānam vyāpādayiṣyāmi / tathā hi /

not if by-want-of-food myself i-will-kill thus for

· atas eva satām saṅgatis iṣyate

therefore, friendship with-saintly i-desire

· iti uktvā hiraṇyaka: maitryam vidhāya

having-said Hiraṅyaka friendship having-made

· bhojana-viśeṣais vāyasam santoṣya vivaram praviṣṭas /

with-food-dainties crow having-regaled hole entered

· vāyasas api svasyānam gatas /

crow also to-his-place gone

· tatas prabhṛti tayo:

thence forward of-those2

· anya-anya-ahāra-pradānena kuśala-praśnais viśrambhālāpais ca

with-mutual-food-presenting with-health-enquiries with-condidential-conversations

· kālas ativartate / ekadā laghupatanakas hiraṇyakam āha /

time passes-by , one-day Laghupatanaka to-Hiraṅyaka says

· sakhe kaṣṭatara-labhyāhāram idam sthānam

friend very-difficult-to-be-procured-food this place

parityajya sthānāmtaram gamtum icchāmi /

having-left to-another-place to-go i-want

· hiraṇyakas brūte / mitra kva gantavyam / tathā ca uktam /

Hiranyaka says friend where to-be-gone ? and so was-said

· vāyasa:s brūte / asti sunirūpitam stānam /

crow says there-is well-investigated-place

· hiraṇyakas avadat / kim tat /

Hiranyaka says what that

· vāyasas brūte / asti danḍakāraṇye karpūragaurābhidhānam saras /

crow says there-is in-Daṇḍaka-forest karpūrakaura lake

· tatra cirakālopārjitas priya-suhṛn me

there long-time-acquired dear-friend of-mine

· mantharā abhidhānas kūrmas sahajadhārmikas prativasati

Manthara named tortoise virtuous dwells

· sas ca bhojanaviśeṣais mām samvardhayiṣyati /

and he with-choice-foods me will-nourish

· hiraṇyakas api āha / tat kim atra avasyāya mayā kartavyam

Hiranyaka also says that what here having-stayed by-me to-be-done ?

Then what will I do by remaining here ?

· tatas mam api tatra naya /

thence me also there take

· atha vāyasas tatra nena mitreṇa saha vicitrālāpais sukhena

now crow there with-that-friend with-various-conversations-pleasant

tasya sarasas samīpam yayau /

of-that-lake near went
